There’s no lack of hype around the use of social media in events. Even social media guru Chris Brogan wrote about it yesterday in his blog, How Events Can Use Social Media. I give Chris lots of credit for avoiding the hysteria. He even admits that using social media to drive event awareness and attendance is still a big experiment. More importantly, he wisely advises that social media tools need to be integrated into an overall event strategy. That’s a point too often lost on eager early adopters. However, Chris neglects one benefit of social media that has the potential to immediately impact almost any event. I’m thinking of the use of social media within conference and meeting sessions. As a platform to fuel crowd sourcing, generate interaction and share knowledge or insight outside the four walls of the meeting room, social media offers tremendous value. I can’t image a speaker, session presenter or thought leader who isn’t looking at these tools to shape, communicate, and deliver their content pre-, during and post-conference. Thoughts?
